Check out this video.
WHAT THE HECK! I hope everyone understands that it is foolish to say that evolution couldn’t have happened because the bible says so. 1. The bible doesn’t say that. 2. Science does not support a literal six day creation. I think people have a lot of trouble believing in evolution because they think that theory means they were not specially created by God. But, God made all the conditions for evolution to occur, so we are still made purposefully. Second, evolution is only biological- Maybe God made your soul special and your body is just a random chance of the biology he established.
But, I think the deeper issue to this video for me is the brainwashing of those young children. It happens every Sunday in churches all across America on more topics than just evolution. We tell kids things like they are 100% true. If a child is told that there is no other thing to believe but that Jesus is the Son of God, where is the faith there? All we ever do with other religions is tell kids about them with tones of disgust, saying “You are stupid if you believe in that.” If you grew up being told that the president of the United States was a robot, unless you saw him face to face, you probably would never except the fact that he is a living, breathing human.
I’m not saying that I think it is bad to teach children about Jesus, but I do think we shouldn’t teach them how to fight off others who bring opposing views. The children in the video were being taught what words to say to combat evolutionists. They know nothing of the science (or lack of) behind their comment, they are just parroting what they have been told. I feel we should encourage open minds in our children. If they get confused, they should be encouraged to talk about the confussion.
Well, I have vented now. Feel free to comment on this and let me know what you think, even if it is a contrary viewpoint.
i admit that video made me really angry. i believe there are much better methods for arguing against evolution. although the news may have edited the footage to look more ridiculous. they even say “we need to be taught to think like evolutionist.” how about teaching the kids to judge for themselves why they believe what they believe. if they never question anything for themselves then they never develop genuine faith.
Hey Andy. I found your blog through David’s. I haven’t looked at the video yet, I am actually at work. But anyways, add me to your blogroll, please.
always,

Hey Andy,
It does make me mad that there are churches that aren’t “teaching the kids to judge for themselves why they believe what they believe,” as Abram said. However, this is not the universal church doing the brain washing. As a home schooled graduate of the Pensacola Christian curriculum I can easily say that the group portrayed is a group of ultra-conservative homeschooling Christians that are living in fear. They live in fear because they aren’t putting evolution and creationism on the same level to begin with. They live in fear because they are not looking at all the facts, and in fact they are trying to bully the evolutionist rather than discuss matters with him/her. They are immediately teaching the children that evolution=naturalism, naturalism=paganism, and paganism=hell. When in fact evolution and naturalism do not have to coincide. This is not taught by most Christian home schooling curriculum.
The extreme evolutionist in the video says that “biology falls apart if evolution is not the base,” (paraphrased). He is also wrong. The fact of the matter is that this evolutionist has completely discarded the idea of God as creator. He has insisted on the fact, and has hardened his mind to think, that biologically the only way things work is through evolution. Since I bashed home schooling science I must try to level the field. It is unlikely that you will hear about creationism at the same level as evolution in public schools. Public schools have tended to side with evolution and have not given the theory of creation equal time in the ring.
ABC has done a wonderful job of portraying the far right and the far left in a never ending battle once again. Good job ABC for making all Christians look like we hate science, and for making science look like it can’t work with God.
Great post Andy.
Somehow i missed the point. Probably lost in translation
Anyway … nice blog to visit.
cheers, Everglades.
